About the tax

Prize money is subject to 5% withholding tax, deducted at source by the State as it must be. Your payment advice shows the gross amount, the tax deducted and the net amount paid, so you have a record for your own returns.

About the copyright

You keep the copyright in your design unless you win first place. The first-place design assigns to the Government of Akwa Ibom State as a condition of that prize — and you are credited as its designer on festival material, on air and online. Second, third and reserve designs remain entirely yours.

How and when you are paid

  1. 1 Results are approved by the Sponsor and locked. Nothing is announced before that.
  2. 2 You are notified privately, by email and SMS, before the public announcement.
  3. 3 You complete a prize claim: your bank details, your BVN, and an electronic signature accepting the prize.
  4. 4 The State compares your verified NIN name against your bank account name. They have to match, or a senior officer must document an override.
  5. 5 Payment is made and your payment advice is issued. You have 30 days to claim, after which the prize passes to a reserve.

Use a bank account in your own name, matching your NIN. An account in a relative's or a business's name will hold your payment up.
